PCS are categorized as a range of human assistance provided to persons with disabilities and chronic conditions to enable them to accomplish activities of daily living (ADLs) or instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs). ADLs are activities a beneficiary engages in to meet fundamental needs on a daily basis, such as eating, bathing, dressing, ambulation, and transfers from one position to another. IADLs are day-to-day tasks that allow an individual to live independently but are not considered necessary for fundamental daily functioning. Tasks can include meal preparation, hygiene, light housework, and shopping for food and clothing.
